1998 Construction Update		 Charlottesville Va Parks and Grounds

 
Pool construction
   "Washington Park was closed to the public on August 18, 1997. Construction of the pool is nearing completion with a scheduled opening date in late June 1998. The next phase of construction will complete the upper level of the park and includes the new community building (the "Barn"), the "green," basketball court, playgrounds, walkways and tree plantings. Construction of this phase is scheduled to begin in late May and be completed in the fall.

     Design development for the completion of the park will continue in conjunction with the fundraising efforts of Partners for Washington Park. The final phase will include improvements to the lower level. The conceptual design includes a multi-purpose field, a picnic area, additional basketball courts, walking paths, a playground area, improved parking and tree plantings.

     In addition, the pool house has undergone a facelift. A new roof has been put on and parts of the interior have been gutted to facilitate some remodeling. The old pump room located underground near the parking lot has been demolished. A new addition to the pool house will now service this need."
