Gifts for the Gardens

... is an opportunity for members of the community to give financially to Charlottesville's flower bed program.

Some of the plant material for our displays is grown in our greenhouse located on Pen Park Road.  We are proud of how much of the plant material we grow ourselves as well as designing, planting and maintaining the flower beds.

Your tax deductible contribution goes towards the cost of plant material and supplies for the greenhouse operation.

Donations are welcome from individuals, businesses, civic groups and organizations -- anyone who has a love and appreciation for gardening.  Your contribution is tax deductible and can be for any amount.

Parks staff would like to thank all of you who take time out of your busy schedules to express your appreciation for what we do.  We enjoy receiving your letters and talking with you as we work in the parks and around the city.  Charlottesville is a city of great natural beauty and we are privileged to play a part in enhancing that beauty for our community.

Highlights of the Gardens

Azaleas and Dogwoods
The Route 250 Bypass between Hydraulic Road and McIntire Road bursts into color when the dogwoods and azaleas reach their peak in mid April.

Tulips
There are close to 10,000 spring flowering bulbs planted each Fall throughout the city.  The largest display of tulips can be found at the intersection of Preston Avenue and McIntire Road (photo) across from the Albemarle County office building.  Peak bloom is mid April.

Iris
Lee Park looks as if it jumped off an artist's canvas when the bearded Iris are in full bloom in late May and early June.  Another area to find a large display of bearded Iris is along the hillside of Washington Park on Preston Avenue.

If you care to contribute, please make checks payable to the City of Charlottesville and mail to:
